VCAD recently unveiled a dazzling showcase of talent at its Summer Portfolio Shows (dubbed VCAD Graduation Exhibition) in Vancouver, Calgary, and its online campus. All three events were vibrant celebrations of creativity and innovation, presenting a diverse range of artistic expressions from the graduating classes.
What is VCAD Portfolio Show?
Over the years, the VCAD Portfolio Shows have transformed into more than just a ceremony. They are immersive experiences that invite visitors to delve into the minds of the graduating artists and designers. The high-profile events are attended by industry professionals and potential employers, art enthusiasts, and friends and family, all eager to witness the birth of the next generation of artists and designers. Four times a year, the shows feature a curated selection of works that highlight the range and depth of the student's abilities. Diversity and inclusion are core values at VCAD, reflected in the wide array of perspectives and backgrounds represented in the graduation show. Students from different cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds bring their unique experiences and insights to their work, enriching the creative tapestry of the event.
VCAD Vancouver Portfolio Show
The Vancouver Portfolio Show was a huge success. Held within the walls of the city’s famous Art Gallery, the graduates’ work was in good company, exhibited alongside world-famous art from around the world. “It's such a privilege to present my work inside the Vancouver Art Gallery,” says 3D Modelling Animation Art and Design diploma program graduate Ashlee K. “I feel confident and empowered by the knowledge and skills I have gained.”
The venue set the stage for an amazing portfolio show. “We had an amazing VCAD Portfolio Show at the Vancouver Art Gallery that exceeded all expectations,” says Arman Khakzadi, Campus Manager for VCAD Vancouver. “I thoroughly enjoyed seeing... our guests from the Fashion Design, 3D, Game Development, Interior Design, and Architectural Industries.” The Portfolio Show was attended by 30 employers from the Lower Mainland and 120 people in total. Many graduates used the opportunity to meet one-on-one with employers who attended the Portfolio show. In attendance were big names from the industry like EA and Hays. “It was truly an unforgettable evening, and we are so proud of each and every one of our students,” said Lee Rebecca Michaud, Career Services Coordinator, VCAD Vancouver campus.
VCAD Vancouver Fashion Show
What concluded the success of VCAD’s Vancouver Portfolio Show was the spotlight-taking fashion show. Fashion Design Instructor Farzaneh Jahangard and her students captured everyone’s attention when the graduates walked down the catwalk wearing and presenting their eye-catching gowns and other designed wardrobes along with their models.
VCAD Calgary Portfolio Show
VCAD’s Calgary Portfolio Show was an incredible platform for future dreamers to seek inspiration and pave their path to success. With more than 55 people attending, including renowned employers from Alberta’s southern region, such as Onsite 3d and Galina Hughes Boutique, the Portfolio Show was truly a milestone event for every participating graduate. Calgary’s Portfolio Show featured multiple highlights, with one Graphic Design program student sparking exciting discussions among industry professionals and receiving rave reviews from employers.
Historically, VCAD graduates have had a high employment rate. For example, more than 97% of Graphic Design program graduates have found employment in 2023 (VCAD Graduation Report). Employers have shown interest and promised to consider graduates as soon as there is an opening in their organization; others have already sent job offer letters to VCAD graduates. “I was blown away by the talent, creativity, and passion our graduates displayed.” said Joyburt Baptista, Career Services Coordinator, VCAD Calgary campus. The main highlight was the presentation of the Awards of Excellence. Three graduates – one from the Graphic Design program, one from the Interior Design program, and one from the Marketing & Merchandising for Fashion Diploma - Merchandising Specialization program – were awarded prizes for their outstanding work.
VCAD Online Portfolio Show
Many students also graduated from VCAD’s online programs. “I couldn't be prouder of our students. The Online Portfolio Show was deeply rewarding, marking a day full of pride and excitement. It was really inspiring to see the creativity and dedication our new graduates have demonstrated throughout their VCAD journey,” said Victoria Patterson, National Academic Director of Academics – Fashion. The Online Portfolio Show was a live stream with slots for every program so that interested employers could log in at the right time to experience the skills and knowledge of VCAD’s online graduates.
