This is my demo reel featuring an indoor crypt chamber and an outdoor jungle temple. I decided to create a more realistic scene for the crypt chamber, using textures modified in Photoshop or created in Substance Painter. This project, as well as the following one, was rendered in the Unreal Engine in order to significantly reduce render times as well as to gain experience using this gaming engine. This project was created before I decided to focus on keeping my polycount low and therefore features a higher amount of faces than my following project although both projects have had assets optimized after creation to reduce the amount of unrequired faces on flat surfaces. For the jungle temple scene, I decided to go for a more stylized approach; I emphasized asymmetry, flatter colours, and curves in order to create a more playful aesthetic. For this project, I challenged myself to create all the textures myself in order to gain experience creating textures from the ground up. Heavy use of high poly models for baking normal maps was required for this project as well as masked textures for foliage. I went with a more modular approach for this project in order to reuse pieces in larger structures or different scenes. Overall these projects have been a blast to work on and have helped me learn a lot in regards to environmental modeling. It was fun creating a moody atmosphere for my crypt scene and drawing all my textures and high poly models by hand was a great learning experience!
