My Portfolio for the upcoming Grad Show on January 6th
My portfolio pieces of work from through out my schooling.
BlackCats Designs is the umbrella to my Freelance business identity. I spent 3 months in school designing this and I feel it represents myself. Black Cats typically fall into a "superstitious" world and are left alone most times. I feel that it reflects on my own ideals & feelings. I want to bring this forward to a new light and make BlackCats shine in the forefront.
Choosing to create and design the Movie Poster and chose my most favorite novel series as well as Movie series, DUNE captures change, advancements but also the fight for freedom and justice. Using the imagery and design along with placements typical of a movie poster, I believe this to be a beautiful piece.
Continuing with the Dune Design, I have learned to appreciate the dynamics of a successful, eye catching book cover. I chose 2 different styles of design for these book covers, one being designed to reflect the new movie coming and the other to reflect a newer, fresher colorful cover. The layout was chosen to be traditional yet newer from when the original books were designed.
I have come to adore publication design from Gig posters to Pamphlets and more. Each unique and represent the message needed to make the publication successful. The Gig poster reflects the current Tour and Album from Hailey Williams, posting it up where typically gig tour posters would be sited. The Pamphlet is a useful publication for all visitors to Drumheller Ab, giving them everything they need at their fingertips.
I chose to design postcards for a very popular bakery in the city. Using the colors and placement of imagery to what the product is and designing it to attract all ages with its whimsical look.
Magazine spreads have become a most favorite and unique way for me to design a professional yet challenging piece. The dynamics of a magazine spread & cover is complex but is like designing a room, everything has its place. Having years of design experience within the VR realm of Second Life, I designed the magazine to reflect the virtual works of other great designers.
Leading the way into Corporate Identity, when I was creating BlackCats Designs branding, I created a whole business identity package starting with the Brand Guide. A guide to sustain the integrity and consistency to how the brand is to be used. From Type fonts to colors and statements, it is clear the use and intentions of the brand.
Along with the guide, I prepared the full stationary package and business cards to reflect the brand. A Fresh white with black and then reversed on the business cards reflects in the stationary as well. Clutter doesn't represent the sleak blackness and cunning of a Black Cat.
Advertisement design was an eye opener for me as was designing a series of Ad posters for Waterkeepers. The use of scenery in specific countries, showcasing that the need for water conservation and farming conservation is vital to our survival.
Designing social media platforms for this exciting game was so much fun. Learning about the game and taking components that I found exciting was the aim for this. The little girl trying to survive the night and even the day from the Werewolves, wanting though to bring the design into a more modern look with the digital work. Placement to advertise was used strategically as we continue to use gaming platforms along with our mobile devices being the popular locals for such advertisements.
Early on in school, realizing and learning more about advertisements and how to design them to be effective from all sizes such as the flyer and Billboard.
Transit advertisement was very important to me as I feel its an amazing way to capture a wide variety of audience. From bus stops to banners on busses and train platforms, these 2 designs reflect the simple yet effective way to advertise. From using QR codes for those on the go to simple website info, learning that they don't need lots of info, but using eye catching design, imagery and easy to glance at type font, is important.
