Brief This is a redesign of G-Eazy’s album “When it’s dark out”. I wanted to draw a portrait of him for the cover paired with a new layout and typographic treatment throughout. Process I referenced an image shot from the original press run. I chose this portrait due to his stark expression, pose and high contrast. My approach began with breaking down my work load into specific stages. Identifying the major elements, textures and lighting. The challenges with this photo were the blending throughout and his distressed jacket. Result  The texture of leather was very arduous to reproduce, due to weathering and ability to reflect and absorb light. Drawn with graphite & charcoal pencils on Canson paper, sized at 9” x 12”.

Brief This Sci-Fi film is based in an underwater environment. The cover includes the protagonist and humanoid villain, all being lit by one major light source. Process Titled “pelagic” meaning: of, relating to, or living or occurring in the open sea. The imagery conveys how isolating and vast an ocean setting is. The genre fits the concept due to how little is known about our oceans. Rationalizing never before perceived elements which provide the films narrative. After researching waters affect on light, the challenge was incorporating the findings. Water is 800 times denser than air. As soon as light enters water, it interacts with the molecules and suspended particles to cause loss of light, contrast, diffusion and colour changes. Result The final poster is sized at 11” x 17”. Ready to be used with all of the promotion deliverables.

Brief With practicing figure and form, I chose to apply this to an album cover visual. Swedish R&B singer Snoh Aalegra commonly uses the female form for her albums which aided with my selection. Process Titled “Alone Together” which is an oxymoron, matching her love for word play, musical themes and subject matter. The challenge of figure studies is simplicity, to represent the subject without over exaggerating features or line work. Showcasing the core shadows are paramount in implied details of the body’s planes. Result In need of a visual that’s beautiful, memorable and alluring, I coloured the figure blue. Blue representing imagination and sensitivity, complimenting her intimate and soulful vocals. Drawn with charcoal pencil on Bristol board, sized at 14” x 17”.

Brief This project replicates a fashion magazine cover. Digitally applying makeup and touch ups to a portrait with the accompanying logo and typographic treatment. Process Without experience of applying makeup, I researched YouTube tutorials to demonstrated how to apply basic makeup step by step for beginners. I chose GQ magazine due to their popularity. Since, being on a cover previously, I found a portrait of Alicia Keys without makeup. For inspiration and brand styling I looked into their 65 year long history. The composition was inspired by their cleaner layouts, Including the cropped logo. Even though not always used, their logo is so recognizable, even when cropped. Result Employing a consistent and limited colour palette to align with the GQ brand. Finally, the articles reference well known song and album titles of hers. The magazine is sized at 8” x 10".

Brief This was a passion project of designing a colouring book. The goal being a multi page document with a consistent treatment and theme throughout. Process This book embodies my personal passions, portraiture and music. I challenged myself to do all portraits digitally rather than my usual approach of pencil. Marketed towards adults, colouring books for adults have become incredibly popular. Helping reduce stress, anxiety and now more accepted as a common pastime for all ages. I decided on a cleaner and more familiar white background for simplicity, to not compete with the art and biographies. A subtle outlined treatment to “a colouring book” helps convey the books genre at first glance. Result The final book is 20 pages, sized at 8" x 5". Perfect to bring and use in a daily routine.
