Recognizing the challenges faced by these students—such as housing affordability, social isolation, cultural adaptation, and access to support systems—the project aims to provide a safe, welcoming, and engaging built environment. The site’s strategic location in the diverse Athlone neighbourhood . To achieve this vision, the design will adopt a horizontal development strategy— favoring low- to mid-rise buildings arranged around shared courtyards and communal zones—to encourage daily interaction, privacy, and a sense of belonging. the needs of Edmonton’s growing international student population
