VCAD Fashion Design student awarded TÉLIO

A VCAD Fashion Design student has been recognized for her accomplishments by a top Canadian fabric company. Gundula Hirn is the recipient of the TÉLIO Scholarship 2019, a $1,000 award given to outstanding fashion students from across the country.

“We are proud of the exceptional hard work and dedication Gundula has shown during her Fashion Design training at VCAD,” says Teresa Vaccaro, VCAD Campus Director.

“We also appreciate the incredible support TÉLIO has provided to her and other emerging designers through its scholarships. This award is well-deserved and we look forward to following what will surely be a remarkable career once Gundula graduates from VCAD,” Vaccaro says.

Born in Germany, Hirn moved to BC when she was five. At an early age, she took a garment construction class and quickly discovered her interest in fashion design.

“I have always been an artistic individual throughout my life and loved creating things,” she says.

Looking to turn her design talent into a career, she enrolled in the Fashion Design diploma program at VCAD. In the program, students receive practical training from industry-experienced instructors.

The courses cover everything students need to know about garment construction, pattern making, illustration, and other essential topics. Before graduating, students also put their new skills and knowledge to use by creating their own fashion collections.

“I chose to study at VCAD because I had an amazing first impression. The college has a very inspirational and personable faculty and they care about their students,” Hirn says.

Hirn, who is on track to graduate later this year, says she is honoured to receive the TÉLIO scholarship. After she earns her diploma, her goal is work in the couture bridal fashion industry.
