Considering a career in art and design? We’ve curated a list of the top five jobs that VCAD students start in after graduation.
It is truly one of the most challenging and intriguing jobs for great communicators and creative people who like to help others find their passion in the arts. These professionals teach art and art history lessons, help students develop their skills, and encourage creativity and self-expression. The required skills include organizational, leadership, and communication skills and encouraging and developing creative solutions.
The median wage for this role is around $35/hr.* The salary will depend on your work experience, so having several years of experience as an artist will be a significant advantage.
Community Arts Co-ordinator
If you have a passion for the arts and want to bring them to your community on a larger scale, this role is for you. As a community arts co-ordinator, you will plan and supervise new projects, coordinate and promote events, and provide professional support to community organizations and individuals. Be prepared to network with many artists, government workers, and art champions in your community to bring your organization’s vision to life.
This role is generally tied with community services work, so be on the lookout for roles that may be hidden under different names. It’s definitely a good idea to speak with a career services advisor from the VCAD team to help you plan your career path for this type of work.
Required skills include excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. The media wage for this type of job is around $33/hr.*
VCAD has had many graduates succeed in becoming interior design specialists or renovation experts. Interior designers sketch design plans estimate how much time a project will take, evaluate the budget for your project, select materials and furnishings, and supervise the construction process. They work closely with architects, construction engineers, and workers as well.
Many of our graduates receive hands-on training on practical skills like 2D and 3D drawing, drafting, and material selection and purchasing. They have also gained valuable industry knowledge from our instructors and have networked their way into a dream job in interior design.

Graphic design is a popular choice for artists as it allows you to be creative and play with various media to create inspirational and eye-catching visuals.
As a graphic designer, you will be responsible for communicating a client’s ideas and concepts to their customers through visual content. You will design blogs, webpages, logos, advertisements, social media profiles, newsletters, labels, stickers, packages, etc. The VCAD curriculum in this program will familiarize you with programs such as Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects to help you succeed in the job.

User Experience Designer
If you know front-end web development and have excellent visual skills, then the web designer position is just right for you! Web designers combine analytic and systematic thinking to build websites and applications that simplify the user experience.
Role titles include UX/UI designer, web designer, multimedia illustrator, and more. VCAD equips graduates with knowledge on design practices and coding to be ready to jump into these roles. Over the next five to six years, there will be an estimated 21,500 job openings in this field.**
