Huddle Up for Some Warm Winter FunTuesday, December 9, 2014
Light Festivals, Scavenger Hunts, Tobogganing, Fire Pits, and More!
Enjoy the bright lights or cozy up indoors! Regardless of your preference, Vancouver is filled with winter activities suited for all age groups.
Skating at Robson Square
It’s free to skate at Robson Square! Opening on December 1, 2014, the rink will include a concession with snacks and warm beverages as well. For those who don’t have their own skates, rentals (including the helmets) are available.
For those who prefer the indoors, Science World is a great option. Aside from all the obvious fun, they also feature a variety of short holiday films in their OMNIMAX Theatre. Grinches can check out Santa vs. the Snowman, a 3D movie created by the Academy Award nominated team that produced Jimmy Neutron. Christmas lovers can also have some fun with the stop-motion film, The Light Before Christmas.
Capilano Canyon Lights
If you haven’t crossed the Capilano Suspension Bridge during the holidays, it’s work a look! Opening on November 29, 2014 until January 3, 2015, Christmas lights will blanket the entire bridge, the CLIFFWALK, and the 250-year-old Douglas fir Christmas tree, which stands at 152-feet. Scavenger hunts, gingerbread cookie-decorating, and other child-friendly activities are also available at the Capilano Canyon Lights event. Partial proceeds from admissions will go to the BC Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Fund, which helps burn survivors and their families.
Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Garden
Celebrating its 30th annual Festival of Lights, the VanDusen Botanical Garden will host a multitude of holiday treats for the eyes. Dancing lights, intricate LEGO creations, and shadow puppet shows are only a few fun activities that will be available starting December 10, 2014 until January 4, 2015.
Family First Night at Mount Seymour
This New Year’s Eve, countdown with tubing and tobogganing! Huddle over a fire pit and enjoy some s’mores and hot apple cider and watch the fireworks at Mount Seymour’s Family First Night event.
