Things to Do in Vancouver

With its mix of urban flair and natural beauty, Vancouver is a city like no other. Surrounded by mountains and the Pacific Ocean, it has a unique mix of big city flavor and laid-back charm.

Vancouver is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. It has plentiful urban parks, the biggest being 1001-acre Stanley Park.  Located on the downtown peninsula, Stanley Park is an urban oasis of nature trails and beaches. It is also home to the Vancouver Aquarium, where visitors can see whales, sea otters, and fish of every shape and size.

Other parks in the city include Queen Elizabeth Park, which is known for its beautiful, manicured gardens, and Pacific Spirit Regional Park, which  encompasses 763 hectares of forest in Vancouver's west side. Vancouver also has an array of beaches. English Bay, Second Beach, and Third Beach are all near downtown, and Jericho Beach, Kitsilano Beach, Spanish Banks and Locarno Beach are all good Kitsilano-area options.

Vancouver offers limitless opportunities for outdoor adventure. The city is particularly bike-friendly and has numerous cycle paths and bike lanes. Rollerblading is another popular activity, especially on Vancouver's Sea Wall, the 22 KM path that lines the city's waterfront from Coal Harbour to Kits Beach.

Winter sports enthusiasts will love Vancouver's proximity to several mountains, including Grouse Mountain, Cypress Mountain, and Mount Seymour. Snowboarding, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing are all popular winter activities.

Armchair sports fans will also love Vancouver. The Vancouver Canucks, the city's NHL hockey team. The sports franchise is hugely popular and its home games, played at Rogers Arena, is one of the hottest tickets in town. Additionally, the Vancouver Whitecaps, the city's soccer club, joined the MLS league in 2011. Vancouver's minor league baseball team, the Vancouver Canadians, play at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Vancouver is also a great place for lovers of great music, art, and theatre. You can watch great contemporary theatre at the Arts Club Theatre, the Cultch, and the Playhouse Theatre. Musicians of every genre can be found in bars, theatres and festivals throughout the city.
