VCAD Food Drive Raises More Than 100 Items for Vancouver Food BanksFriday, December 22, 2017
More than 25,000 people use the Greater Vancouver Food Bank each week
Vancouver, BC – December 21, 2017 - Food banks are the reality for many low income individuals and families who are simply living paycheque-to-paycheque. The holiday season in particular can be a difficult time for many as thousands cope with the challenge of feeding themselves and their families.
Students at VCAD have been getting involved over the holiday season to help tackle hunger and food insecurity. For the last month, they’ve been collecting non perishable foods and household items for our annual Holiday Food Drive to help those most in need in the community.
Over the course of the drive, VCAD staff and students generously donated 115 items that will go to help those most in need in the community.
As Schuurman Hess, Head of Vancouver Food Bank, explains “the donations are critical during the holidays as the food bank is serving roughly 27,000 people every week and they’re pleading for the community’s support.”
According to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, 26,500 people use their services weekly. 20% of food bank members are children and youth, while 19% are seniors.
