Vancouver, BC - After months of preparation, faculty and staff at the Visual College of Art and Design welcomed fresh-faced Graphic Design, 3D Modeling Animation and Interior Design students as the institute launched its inaugural first term at the Melville Street campus on Monday April 6, 2009.
"These students come from a variety of backgrounds and all of them have some experience in their respective industries," said Bohdan Bilan, VP of Academics and Regulatory Affairs. "They're all very passionate and intent on laying a solid foundation in their chosen career fields with a formal education."
The Applied Arts curriculum at VCAD offers industry-driven, accelerated and intense art and design training that leads to employment in both traditional and nontraditional industries. And, according to Bilan, over the last 15 years, success rates from programs like those offered at VCAD have proven to have positive employment outcomes regardless of the economic situation.
"The state of visual communication, art, and design is continuously changing to meet the demands of commerce and society" he adds. "Highly competent and original visual artists and designers will always be in demand, whether they work in graphic design, fashion, interior design or the gaming and visual effects industries."
Since establishing the downtown Vancouver campus in February, VCAD has positioned itself as the city's hub for students of Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fashion and 3D Modeling, Animation Art and Design. And the overall response from prospective students, local industries and the general public has surprised VCAD administrators.
"Interest in our programs has been overwhelming," says Larry Heinzlmeir, Vice-President of Admissions. "In less than three months we've received over 2000 inquiries across all five programs."
With the summer term fast approaching, administrators are busy planning for the launch of the Fashion Design and the Marketing and Merchandising for Fashion programs. Also, the institute is already preparing for a next round of cohorts in the Graphic Design, 3D Modeling Animation and Interior Design programs.
