VCAD Offers New Online Resume-Building Software

Vancouver, BC – February 7, 2012 – Visual College of Art and Design is now offering graduates an easier way to build their resumes and other personal marketing materials that are crucial for the job search. The college recently launched Optimal Resume, a web-based program that allows users to create high-quality multimedia resumes and portfolios for easy online sharing. The service is offered completely free-of-charge to all students and alumni.

Unlike a basic word processing program, Optimal Resume offers styled templates, easy formatting, industry-specific examples and easy-to-follow instructions. Users enter their relevant information in established categories and the program generates a resume that can be downloaded, printed or published online. Users can also turn their resumes into professional websites, with the option to include links to their accounts on sites like LinkedIn and Twitter.

In addition, Optimal Resume allows VCAD students and alumni to create portfolios of their work to share with potential employers. They can also create video resumes, allowing them to make a positive first impression as if they were meeting employers in person. Portfolios and video resumes can be included on users' websites.

Employers will also have access to a personal online portal to post career opportunities directly to VCAD. Students and alumni can access and apply to these job postings directly through the service.

“Optimal Resume will enable grads to create strong resumes and other personal marketing tools that will give them a competitive edge in the job market,” says Dean Tremain, VCAD’s Director of Graduate and Career Services. “They can also link to social media through this service and reach a broader employer base.”
