Some home renovation projects are best left to a professional interior designer
Vancouver, BC - March 17, 2010 - With so much competition in the housing market, many home owners are now investing in renovations to upgrade their property for resale. First time buyers are now looking to "flip" their homes to make a profit and in turn purchase a more expensive property to live in long term.
Unfortunately, television shows like "The Big Flip" and "Flip that House" wrongly depict house flipping as a do it yourself project. On these shows, most owners do not enlist a professional interior designer to help create a design concept and end up making the wrong choices concerning bathroom and kitchen light fixtures, flooring selection, and even paint colours.
Finishes are often picked based on personal taste, so the completed look tends to be overwhelming - not current or even trendy. The house then appeals only to a limited number of potential buyers and doesn't generate the maximum potential profit.
When designing for resale, the overall feel of the home should be timeless and transitional to attract a wider audience. By incorporating a palette of neutral colours and classic finishes the end result should be neither too contemporary nor traditional.
Invest in high quality materials in key areas such as the kitchen and bathroom on countertops, cabinets and tiles to further increase the value of your home. New windows, roof and electrical are also important upgrades that enhance the efficiency and safety of older houses.
