Summary
The Student Services/Employment Specialist (SSES) is responsible for monitoring and advising on students' academic progress, providing students and graduates career services and employment assistance by matching graduate skill sets to employer needs, maintaining confidential client and referral records, delivering and/or coordinating presentations/workshop and seminars as appropriate to the position.

General Qualification
- A background in or experience with the creative arts
- A Bachelor's Degree
- 2-4 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Specific Responsibilities
The SSES will be responsible for the following as well as other related duties as assigned to support the business objectives and purpose of VCAD.
• Create and enhance working relationships with local employers to obtain information on job opportunities to facilitate student placement.
• Program content, skill set and portfolio outcomes expertise.
• Schedules, conducts, and documents exit interview with each pending graduate.
• Maintain a database of employment possibilities and resources library including career guidance references, employment literature and related information.
• Assist all qualified graduates in their job seeking efforts by conducting workshops in resume and portfolio development, career goals and assessment, interviewing techniques and personal appearance.
• Prepare print materials to generate job leads.
• Identify entry level job openings for students and graduates through phone calls, newspaper ads, personal contacts and written correspondence.
• Ensure that all placements related data is entered into an electronic record keeping system on an accurate and timely basis. Track placement rates for each program.
• Confirm continuous employment for a specified period of time in accordance with college, accreditation, and corporate guidelines.
• Contact, collect and summarize employer and graduate satisfaction surveys.
• For each program, achieve placement results consistent with corporate targets and applicable regulatory agency standards
• Analyze statistical reports and other data.
• Schedule dates for graduate portfolio fairs, employer information sessions, and interviews.
• Educates employers on curriculum and competitive compensation. Plans and conducts employer visits and on-campus recruiting.
• Address program curriculum needs and changes.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

To be successful in the SSES role, the individual must be committed to developing, maintaining and demonstrating the following:
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and cultures
- Excellent organizational, time management skills, leadership and management skills
- 2+ years of experience in recruiting, career services, and employment assistance
- 2+ years management experience
- Ability to organize data, analyze and report on trends and outcomes
- Ability to develop networks and maintain contacts within the business community
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Good judgment and ability to prioritize assignments
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm focus during hectic periods
- Understanding of the strategic plan, programs and services provided by VCAD
- Ability to exhibit a professional attitude and image with a commitment to quality service
- Working knowledge of MS Office 2007 including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
